Hearing positive lived experiences from patients who now help healthcare to innovate and improve products and services, one of the most valuable processes on the innovation journey, defining and understanding the need before designing the solution. Here too with Peter Griffen, client of Innovate UK Business Growth to explore connectivity in this respect.

The availability of EV Charging continues apace. As of end of June 2024, there are 64,775 electric vehicle charging points across the UK, across 33,829 charging locations, 12,281 of which are fast chargers. Contrast that with 8,365 petrol stations in the UK, and the question becomes: what range anxiety? Of course, there is still some way to go, but the transition is in full swing. #ev #electricvehicles #cleanenergytransition

If we are to make the transition to Net Zero by 2030, we need to understand what stage businesses are at with their decarbonisation efforts across all sectors and the picture is at best cloudy and confused for the most part. This new 'census' research should help to clarify the issue, provided businesses take part and complete the survey at www.netzerocensus.co.uk The initiative, developed by the UK Business Climate Hub involves an annual survey that will determine the percentage of UK businesses with net-zero objectives, the number of businesses monitoring their carbon footprint, and steps taken by businesses to minimise this footprint. Additionally, it will offer a breakdown of regional, sectoral and business size data, providing insights to policymakers, investors and business leaders regarding the nation’s journey towards net-zero. Data like this will be valuable as we transition to a low carbon economy, so do consider taking part in the census as it will send a message to government about the barriers and help needed for business, as well as helping you benchmark your progress with others when the results are shared. Open until 30 June. #netzerotransition #netzeroresearch

Today I'm a proud founder. Spark is a finalist in the Tech South West awards after just 7 months doing it's brilliant thing! 2024 has been a big year. So proud to be a finalist for the CreaTech award. And of my co-founder Jules who has been shortlisted for the Spotlight award. Not sure what we do at Spark? We deliver exceptional learning experiences for creative leaders, and creative and strategy practitioners to integrate generative AI into their processes, to create breakthrough work that sets agencies and brands apart. Our mission is to champion creativity, helping creative teams not only thrive, but create their best work, in a world where AI becomes commonplace. ❤️ How did I get into this space? Many of you know me for my work on #futureofwork in the #civilservice. Some of you will know that I also ran by own #graphicdesign studio for the last decade and an #employerbranding agency We are The Loves for the last few years too. It's easy to think of #ai as a tech thing - but actually it's biggest impact is on the #futureofwork I've seen in my lifetime. It makes #hybridworking look insignificant. It's a transformational change that's already on us, whether we are actively managing to reap the opportunities and manage the risks or not. One of the biggest areas of #ai disruption (meaning opportunity!) right now is in the #creative space. So this is where I'm at - it's a natural evolution of what I've always specialised in. And the wildest ride! #ai #creative #brand

Thinking digitally to solve the UK's infrastructure challenge. Karen Thompson in a piece from Capgemini in the FT sets out 5 imperatives for the UK to harness the power of digital and avoid creating ever more environmental damage, cost and inflexibility by simply 'pouring more concrete and welding more steel', however well designed these traditional solutions may be: 1. Real-time visibility: Fix archaic systems and build intelligent assets and operations. 2. Digital-first mindset: digitised thinking and processes that extend to every coner of operations, starting with the question 'what's the problem' 3. Sustainable solutions: flexible solutions with the capability to adapt to climate change, evolving demand, supply constraints and environmental pressures 4. Standardised solutions: avoiding the 'start from scratch' mentality to reuse solutions whilst nevertheless embedding learning to improve them 5. Culture change: imagining new solutions to societies needs and problems and anticipating the challenges to come It's a good list and good advice, which resonates with my experience. From my time in the energy, water and utilities industry and infrastructure programmes, I know that there are like-minded professionals in both the utility companies and in the engineering and construction supply chain. But although these visionaries are becoming more common, they are not yet the norm and there is a long way to go for the 5 imperatives to permeate all aspects of UK infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/eXWt_aVw #AI #technology #innovation #Digital #infrastructure #energy #water #utilities

1. Tech and AI are essential for the NHS's future transformation. 2. A secure and resilient digital infrastructure is crucial for the NHS. 3. The NHS is in a "critical condition" and requires bold measures for improvement. 4. A 10-year NHS transformation plan will focus on preventive care and community-based services. 5. The NHS faces significant challenges in its digital transition due to its size and legacy systems. 6. Cybersecurity must be prioritized in the digitization of the NHS. 7. Digital tools should enhance productivity and streamline healthcare delivery. 8. The NHS must be AI-ready to leverage innovative technologies for improved healthcare outcomes.

Rory Stewart’s speech at #ThinkLondon really resonated with me. He spoke about AI’s macro impact - politically and economically - and as Rory said himself, there is no doubt that AI is an extraordinary boon to productivity. Take, for example, an NHS hospital that used AI to uncover that certain patients were being seen much faster than others due to inconsistent and inefficient pathways. With AI, this hospital reduced patient waiting times from an average of 14 weeks to 2 weeks—that’s the power of AI in action. But as Rory stressed, communication is key. Tech leaders must be able to communicate effectively to explain how AI can benefit not only businesses, but the people at the heart of it. AI will disrupt and change many of our jobs in the coming years - we cannot shy away from that fact. This is a time of both opportunity and uncertainty. And although it is almost impossible to predict exactly where we’ll be in 10 years’ time, what we must do now is start adopting AI into our lives and workplaces, one step at a time. Perhaps use #Wanderlog to plan your next holiday, or train your employees on how to use #Copilot effectively on the ground. And if you’re unsure where to begin, just ask. Let’s help each other navigate this journey and make the most of AI—together. #AI #ThinkLondon #Productivity #ChangeManagement #GenAI #RoryStewart #HealthcareAI #AIAdoption

‘Our healthcare systems face unsustainable challenges due to funding limitations, increasing and ageing populations and escalating risks from climate related impacts. 30% of healthcare practices are considered low value, providing little or no benefit to patients. By collaborating, we can deliver better, tailored care, reduce waste, and optimise health funding.' This week I was lucky to be asked to attend an inspiring event focused on healthcare and sustainability. The energy in the room was absolutely electric! One of the key takeaways was the critical importance of leveraging our circles of influence to address the impending challenges we face. As healthcare professionals we hold a unique and trusted position to drive positive change in both hearts and minds. We saw how in the Covid crisis we could quickly rally our resources and focus our efforts to combat a global threat. The urgency of climate change, however, poses an even greater challenge that demands our individual attention and action. Just as training for infection control has become a standard part of practice, we need to advocate for sustainability programs to be equally mandatory for all healthcare workers. Together, we can make a significant impact. Bank of Ireland Real Zero Irish Doctors for the Environment Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Ethico HaPPE Earth Hugh M. 🌟 I share this article https://lnkd.in/drAPjebB by Kai Nicol-Schwarz for Sifted, as a call to action to address the systemic challenges and push for a more integrated approach to AI in healthcare. The point is on whether the NHS (and I add Spanish and EU Systems) is prepared to harness the potential of AI to transform healthcare. The article outlines the pressing needs of the healthcare sector, burdened by workforce shortages and the rising costs of treating an expanding and ageing population, suggesting AI could be a pivotal solution. Despite significant investment efforts, widespread deployment of AI in the NHS seems a long way off, primarily due to the rigorous process required for clinical validation to ensure safety and efficacy. However, their journey also emphasizes the challenges of navigating the NHS's complex structure for technology adoption. This same approach could be applied to the Spanish healthcare system. The article also touches on the broader implications for startups that, faced with slow adoption rates, may seek markets such as the U.S., where commercialization pathways are more accommodating. What steps are necessary to ensure that the current Healthcare System can capitalize on AI advancements to meet current healthcare demands and adapt to future challenges? This scenario underlines the need for streamlined processes and clearer pathways for technology adoption. #AI #HealthcareInnovation #NHS #EUHealthcare #DigitalTransformation
